Phasing Scenario for the French Section of the Lyon-Turin

The "Grand Gabarit" phasing scenario includes:

  • First Phase: Simultaneous implementation of Phases 1 and 2 (as defined in the public utility declaration documents), excluding the Dullin l'Epine tunnel and the Chambéry connection. This phase consists of:

    • The creation of a new double-track line enabling mixed freight and passenger traffic between Grenay (Lyon outskirts) and Avressieux.
    • The construction of a new single-track line dedicated exclusively to freight between Avressieux and Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, including tunnels through the Chartreuse, Belledonne, and Glandon massifs.

  • Second Phase: Connection between Avressieux and Chambéry via a new mixed freight and passenger line, including the double-track Dullin l'Epine tunnel. This phase has been declared of public utility, but it is not covered by the preliminary design studies (APD) launched in 2025 and will be studied later.
